Over the Moon Past Cloud 9...

Happy New Year everyone!  Jason and I, along with our family were able to opt for an elective ultrasound this week to find out our baby's gender nearly 5 weeks before our OB will do the anatomy scan.  I have been so excited and nervous with butterflies to see sweet Baby Cannoli again.  I haven't seen Baby Cannoli since before my surgery, so I have been eager to make sure our precious baby was adjusting just fine.  Thankfully, the tech told us that she had no reason to believe that Baby Cannoli would not be born completely healthy.  That statement made the ultrasound completely worth it.

Our tech began our time with a guess before turning on the machine, and told us she had only been wrong on her guess once.  She turned on the machine and was able to tell us the gender within just a few seconds.  Needless to say, the room was FILLED with squeals and yells of excitement.  Tears of joy quickly followed.

Here are a few sweet shots of our Baby Cannoli.  My favorite was watching the thumb-sucking.  It was the sweetest thing!
The best face shot we could get.  Baby Cannoli was on the MOVE.
I'm beyond word to explain our joy.  Jason and I cannot wait to meet our sweet SON in June!
Just for fun, a 100%, definite, no question about it "money" shot of our baby boy.  There is zero doubt that this little boy is shy, or a girl! Tee hee. :)
I cannot explain my excitement to meet this sweet little man.  He and I have been through one wild ride in this pregnancy, and I have zero doubt that he will continue to take Jason and I through a wild and amazing adventure in raising him.  My sweet baby BOY! I just can't say it enough!  Stay tuned for our announcement of his name, and the meanings behind it.

We have a SON!!!!

2010, You've Been Good to Me

Dear 2010,

You have taught me new lessons and thrown many new surprises my way.  You gave me the chance for another wonderful year with my husband and family, and I will look back on you with fondness. For a quick recap...

In January, I adjusted to the lessons I learned from my new job as a children's counselor.

In February, I surprised my husband with a gift to the Eric Clapton concert.

In March, I spent the month feeling very content and happy with my life in the work force and in my personal world.

In April, we celebrated Riley's 2nd Birthday and took a trip to Texas to celebrate Grandpa Orlando's 80th birthday.

In May, Jason and I celebrated our very first wedding anniversary.

In June, I learned the lesson of patience.

In July, my entire family visited Holiday World with Riley.

In August, I was lucky to do a blog review, a bloggy first!!

In September, we took a trip to New England and spent a wonderful week in Boston.

In October, I celebrated my 24th birthday and discovered that we were expecting our first little miracle!

In November,  I began feeling very ill and started the process of discovering what was causing my baby and I to suffer.

In December, the doctors finally discovered a life-threatening situation that resulted in multiple firsts for me.

2010, I so appreciate all the wonderful celebrations, trips, and lessons you blessed me with.  If 2011 is anything as great as you, bring it on! It will be the year of sweet Baby Cannoli!!

Stay tuned tomorrow for a special announcement!!

Boy? or Girl?

I looked at some of the old wives tales just for fun tonight.  I've looked at several over the past few weeks, and have been really amused at the results.

For example, one of the old wives tales is the needle/string or wedding ring/necklace chain.  You hold the chain or string over your belly.  If it swings side to side, it's a boy and if it swings in a circle, it's a girl.  However, a different website told me that if it swings side to side, it's a girl and a circle is a boy.  Most websites I found told me if the heartbeat was over 140, it was a girl.  My CCU nurse in Nashville told me that over 140 meant boy.  My OB predicted a girl because the heartbeat is 154.  It seems that each website and doctor have their own opinions of which side each old wives tale is on, and I have no idea which to believe! So I'm just as in the dark about what Baby Cannoli will be as I was before taking the quiz.  Just for fun, I thought I would post some for you.  I borrowed most of these "prediction guesses" from my friend Brittney's blog, who posted this when she was expecting her baby last year.  Most of her old wives tales predicted a girl, and she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy!

Shape of Belly

If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl. If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy. (Girl? I can't really tell on this one)

Shape of Mom’s Face

When your face gets fuller and rounder when pregnant, it means you’re going to have a girl. If your face is long and narrow, it’s a boy. (Girl, but I'm not sure if that fullness is a girl or swelling)

Key Test

This test involves a key. If you pick up a key at the top (the roundest part), you are going to have a boy. If you pick up the key at the bottom (smallest part), you are going to have a girl. If you happen to grab the key in the middle, congrats, it’s twins!(Boy)

Mayan Tale

The Mayan tale adds the mothers age at conception and the year of conception. If the result is an even number then mom is having a girl. If the result is an odd number then a boy is on the way! (Boy)

Acne

If you have acne while pregnant, it’s a girl. (Girl)

Cravings

People believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy. If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl. (Girl)

Skin under Left Eye

The eye test is when a “V” or “branches” appear when you pull down the skin under your left eye. If you see a “V” or “branches” in the white part, you’re having a girl. (Girl)

History of Parent’s Kids

You can find out the sex by going off of your parent’s kids and the order. If you are the first born, you will have what your mother had but starting with her second child. If you are the middle child, you will have what she said, but starting with the third child. If you are the last child, you will have what your mother had in the exact order. (Girl)

Moodiness

If you are really moody, you are having a girl since you have another extra girl hormones in you. Your pregnancy will make you smile and be more happy if you are having a boy. (Girl)

Bread

If you eat the ends of bread, it’s a boy. If you eat the middle of the loaf, it’s a girl.(Girl

)

Chinese Gender Chart

The Chinese Gender Chart claims to have an accuracy rate of over 90%. It is based on how old the mother is at conception and the month that she conceived. (Girl)

Mom’s Beauty

Basically you are having a girl if your beauty disappears during pregnancy. It is said that the girl “steals” the mother’s beauty. If you think that pregnancy has never made you look more beautiful, you might just be having a little boy. (Girl)

Dream of Sex of Baby

If you have dreams that you are having a boy, you will have a girl. If you dream about having a girl, it will be a boy. Dreams show the opposite of what you are having. (I've dreamt both: Girl or Boy)

Clumsy vs. Graceful

If the pregnant woman is graceful throughout her pregnancy, she’s having a girl. If she becomes clumsy, she’s having a boy. (Boy-If this is right, I've been preparing for a boy my whole life!)

Side You Most Rest On

If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she’s having a boy. If she prefers resting on her right side, she’s having a girl. (Boy)

Hands

When the pregnant woman is asked to show her hands, it’s a boy if she keeps her palms down and a girl if she shows her palms up. (Girl)

Dad’s Weight Gain

If the dad-to-be gains weight while you are pregnant, it’s a girl. If he doesn’t gain weight, you’re having a boy. (Boy)

What Do You Think?

71% of the time, the mom-to-be knows what she is having. (Boy)

Morning Sickness

If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it’s a boy. If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl. (My sickness was minimal, so I'm going with Boy)

Protein

When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy. (Boy...just on the cheese part)

Feet

Are your feet colder now that you are pregnant? If so, you just might be having a boy. If your feet have stayed the same before pregnancy and during, you’re having a little girl. (Boy)

Hands are Dry

If your hands are constantly dry, it’s a boy. (Girl)

Headaches

If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy. (Girl)

Baby Names

It is said that when you can only think of specific names for a boy or a girl, you will have that particularly baby. (Girl name has been chosen since before pregnancy, but the boy name is still semi up-in-the-air so; Girl)

Boy: 9 Girl: 14

Tie for 1

So according to all these, we can expect a little girl!  My maternal instinct told me a girl until about 2 weeks ago, before the hospital stay.  Since my stay in the hospital, my instinct says even stronger that it is a boy.
Tell me, what's your vote??
