Flu Shot?

Bloggy ladies, I need your advice!

I had zero plans to get a flu shot, as always. However, since I'm pregnant, I've been encouraged to considerate. I plan to discuss this with my doctor in a couple of weeks when I have my appointment, but I wanted your feedback too!

Is the flu shot save for my and Baby Cannoli? What's your take on it?

I got the regular flu shot last year but it was before we knew about sweet p! I wouldn't have otherwise. I refused the h1n1 vaccine because after doing my research I decided it wasn't well tested and in my heart I was not comfortable with it. I never got sick while pregnant and my midwife said she believes it was because of my diet and excersise level. It's def something you should look into and do what you feel comfortable with. It's YOUR baby!! This year since the shot is a combined shot I'm refusing it at work since our state allows you to opt out of vaccines for philosophical reasons and I just don't like how little is known about the h1n1 part! Anyway, read up and don't go against your gut!!!

I guess I was just going to get it because my nurse told me to. Maybe I won't though. I am going to take Kristin's advice and read up on it.

It is recommended that all pregnant women receive their flu shots. I'm a nurse (but try to refrain from doling out medical advice a la Internet..) and I'll be getting mine this year to protect my brand new baby (antibodies) since he doesn't turn 6mo old until after the flu season window. If you're uncomfortable with the idea of a combination vaccine, ask your doc if there's any way you could get the vaccine with just the seasonal strains and not the h1n1 (although it was administered to preggers throughout the US last year and I haven't read/heard about any terrible ramifications). Tons of my pregnant friends got it and delivered beautiful babies. All that aside- you have to do what YOURE most comfortable with!! ;) whew!!

I say no. But you have to do what you feel comfortable with. I've never gotten the flu shot and never gotten the flu. I refused the h1n1 even when my ob/gyn kept telling me to when pregnant with Emeline--I worked with 900 snotty (infected) kids all week long, and never got sick with the flu. I always say its a bit risky to do any injection while pregnant, but thats just me. I think you need to do what you feel comfortable with. For me, I didn't feel comfortable getting it. Anyway--if you don't get it, sanitize constantly...wipe down your desk, where you work, etc..thats what I did. It worked! :) Don't forget your extra vitamins and prenatals help too.

Your doctor will absolutely encourage you to get a flu shot. My midwife encouraged and gave me mine. I declined getting the H1N1 vaccine and don't regret not getting it one bit, but will absolutely still get the regular flu shot any time I am pregnant again. I never got flu shots before I was pregnant.

I just read Kristin's comment and she said the shot this year is combined...like, combined with H1N1??? I'd totally be freaked out about that. :\ Personally! I guess do research and talk with your doctor! Do whatever makes you most comfortable. :)

As all of your other friends on here have said, it is your choice and your sweet baby your growing. You must make the decision on your own. However, with that said, I'd like to give you my advice. I have a friend who reads up on all of these kinds of things and he told me about 2 weeks ago that the flu shots contain a large amount of mercury. If you're familiar with this, then you'll know that it is NOT good for you in anyway shape or form. I encourage that you do not get the shot for the sake of saving your baby and you from the mercury. You can always just clean your desk and exercise and eat healthy. Hope this helps!
